Our Misson
Welcome and thank you for your
interest in Primary Care Publications!
Primary Care Publications (PCP) was developed
as a platform to foster the ability of primary
care clinicians to provide patients with
educational materials related to their specific
healthcare issues.
Primary care clinicians are at a significant
disadvantage in their efforts to provide such
information due to a lack of educational
resources and increasingly tight time
scheduling.
Ideally, the pharmaceutical representative
would be perceived as a resource that can
enhance the ability of the clinician to provide
quality and effective healthcare. Similarly, the
healthcare provider would like to provide a
credible and informative tool that can serve
to expand and reinforce the advice that is
given during the clinician/patient interaction.
Primary Care Publications coordinates and
facilitates interaction with primary care
opinion leaders, professional associations and
educational organizations. Our strategic focus
is to identify methods, vehicles, and tools with
the greatest impact and utility for the primary
care clinician that result in improved care for
the patient.
Our needs assessment has indicated that
clinicians value a practical pocket-sized book
that provides evidence-based information to
help patients understand the disease state,
lifestyle management, prescribed therapies
and tools to manage their healthcare issues.
Furthermore, this resource is perceived as
a value-added component of the healthcare
encounter.
Our experience with the development of
our first publication within the series: The
Doctor's Essential Guide to Management of
Back Pain, funded by a grant from McNeil
Pharmaceuticals, was extremely well
received by both providers and patients, and
subsequently the 200,000 copies printed were
fully distributed and utilized within 10 days of
publication.
